The Florida Panthers continued their offseason of building the
organization for success into the future as they agreed on six-year deal with
Vincent Trocheck on Saturday.
The new contract is worth 28.5 million-dollars over the
terms of the deal. Trocheck, was tied for third place on the Panthers with 25
goals, while being fifth overall in the National Hockey League with 53 points.
The 22-year-old forward, was a restricted free agent,
following his third NHL season. Florida presented him a qualifying offer last weekend,
before reaching the six-year deal on Saturday.
The Pittsburgh native was selected by the Cats in the third
round, 64th overall, of the 2011 NHL Draft. During the 2015-2016
season, in 76 games with the Panthers, he set career highs in goals (25) and
points (53).
He missed the end of the regular season, after suffering a
fractured ankle while blocking a shot against the Toronto Maple Leafs on March
29. He was able to return for the postseason, playing in the final two games of
their Eastern Conference Quarterfinal Round against the New York Islanders.
Over three seasons with the Panthers, Trocheck has scored 37
goals and 46 assists in 146 games. He has added one assist in two postseason
games.
The Panthers also signed Jason Demers to a five-year deal on
Saturday, as well. On Friday, they resigned Aaron Ekblad, to a six-year contract
extension. They also inked goaltender James Reimer to a five-year deal, former
Dallas Stars forward, Colton Sceviour, to a one-year contract and former Tampa
Bay Lightning center, Jonathan Marchessault to a two-year deal once Free Agent
Frenzy opened on July 1st.
Earlier in the week the Cats signed defenseman Keith Yandle
to a seven-year deal. Florida received the rights to Yandle, from the New York Rangers
in exchange for draft picks.
