New Jersey Devils Backup Goaltender Keith Kinkaid Named Third Star of Week





New Jersey Devils goaltender and Farmingville, Long Island native, Keith Kinkaid, was named the National Hockey League’s third star of week. 

The backup netminder jumped into the starting role when Cory Schneider went down with an injury last week and went 2-0-0 with a 0.48 goals against average and a .981 save percentage as the Devils began their western road trip. 

On March 10, Kinkaid earned his second shutout of his career against the San Jose Sharks stopping all 30 of the shots he faced in a 3-0 victory. Two nights later he turned away 22 of 23 shots in a 2-1 overtime victory. 

The 26-year old goaltender has two shutouts this season in 17 appearances, while going 7-6-1 with a 2.44 GAA and a .911 save percentage. He holds a 13-11-5 record in 37 career games. 

The second star of the week was Florida Panthers forward, Vincent Trochek who picked up five assists and six points in three nights, as he helped lead the Cats to five out six points in the standings. The 22-year old Pittsburgh native, ranks third on the Panthers with 20 goals and 26 assists in 68 games this season. 

St. Louis Blues forward, Vladimir Tarasenko, earned the first star of the week in the NHL as he tied for the lead in points for the week with three goals and three assists. His six points helped lead the Blues to a trio of victories and a share of first place in the Central Division and Western Conference.
