NHL Releases Home Openers for All 30 Teams




The National Hockey League announced the home openers for all 30 teams on Monday. 

The full schedule for the 2016-2017 NHL season is not expected to be released until Tuesday at about 1:00 PM, but each team released their home openers. The season will be opening a week later than usual, due to the World Cup of Hockey taking place at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario from September 17 to October 1. 

The regular season will faceoff north of the border, on October 12, with the Edmonton Oilers and the Calgary in the battle of Alberta squaring off at Rogers Place, the new home of the Oilers as well as a battle of Ontario with the Toronto Maple Leafs hosting the Ottawa Senators. 

South of the border, Western Conference Champions, San Jose Sharks will host in-state rival, Los Angeles Kings as the Chicago Blackhawks will hope to avenge their first round loss against the St. Louis Blues at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. 

The Pittsburgh Penguins will raise their Stanley Cup Championship banner the following night when they host the President’s Trophy winning, Washington Capitals at the Consol Energy Center. That same night, the Florida Panthers will raise their Atlantic Division Champions banner, when the New Jersey Devils visit Sunrise and the Dallas Stars, raise their Central Division Champion banner in front of Pacific Division Champions the Anaheim Ducks.
