David Backes Signs Five Year Deal with Boston Bruins

The Boston Bruins announced on Friday that they signed former St. Louis Blues captain, David Backes to a five-year 30 million-dollar deal. 

Backes, who had spent 10 seasons with the Blues, scored 21 goals and 24 assists in 79 games for St. Louis during the past season. His goal totals were the lowest that he has scored, since he scored 17 goals and 45 in 82 games during the 2009-2010 season and fewest points since he scored since he put up 31 points in the 2007-2008 season.

This past season he led the Blues to the Western Conference Finals, where he scored seven goals and seven assists in the team’s 20 playoff games. Prior to this season, he had not scored more than two goals in the post season. 

During the 2016 Stanley Cup Playoffs, Backes was the only player in the National Hockey League to have two overtime goals. 

Backes has spent 10 seasons with the Blues, while scoring 206 goals and 254 assists in 727 games. He had served as the captain of the team, since the 2011-2012 NHL season. 

He has been solid contributor on the ice and effective leader in the dressing room, as well as around the community.  He has assisted local charities and has helped to find shelters and homes for animals. 

The 32-year-old forward has nice size, that can still be effective on offense, while playing a physical game. He is also a valuable voice in the dressing room, adding to the team’s leadership.
