Connor McDavid, Sidney Crosby and Sergei Bobrovsky up for Hart Trophy

The top three finalists for the 2017 Hart Trophy for Most Valuable Player in the National Hockey League were announced on Monday, and they are Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins, Sergei Bobrovsky of the Columbus Blue Jackets and Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers.

Crosby, a two-time Hart Trophy winner (2007 & 2014), led the NHL with 44 goals during the 2016-2017 season. This past season was his second highest scoring season, since he tied Patrick Kane of the Chicago Blackhawks, with 89 points, during the 2009-2010 season. He also found the back of the net 51 times during that season. 

McDavid, 20, scored 100 points (30 goals & 70 assists) this past season helping lead the Oilers to their first Stanley Cup Playoff appearance since their run to the Final in 2006. He became the first Oiler to put up 100 points, since current New York Islanders head coach, Doug Weight scored 104 in the 1995-1996 season. 

His 30 multiple-point and 11 three-point games led the NHL during the past season. McDavid wrapped up the regular season with 25 points (7 G & 18 A) in 14 games. 

Bobrovsky, set a Blue Jacket record between the pipes with 41 victories, as he led the league with a 2.06 goals against average and .931 save percentage. His seven shutouts were tied for third in the NHL, behind Washington Capitals netminder, Braden Holtby (nine) and Boston Bruins goalie, Tuukka Rask (eight).

A 14-game winning streak from November 29 to January 3, was tied for second best in NHL history. Gilles Gilbert of the Bruins holds the NHL’s longest winning streak of 17 games, set back in 1975-1976. 

One of these three valuable assets to their organization will find out which one gets to take home the hardware on June 21 at the T-Mobile Arena, the home of the league’s newest franchise, the Vegas Golden Knights at 7:30 PM. NBCSN in the United States and Sportsnet in Canada, will televise all the events from the 2017 NHL Awards and Expansion Draft.
