Las Vegas NHL Franchise Reaches 16,000 Season Ticket Deposits

The Las Vegas National Hockey League expansion team announced on Monday that they have reached the limit on season ticket deposits of 16,000 available for their inaugural season. 

Fans can still make deposits for season tickets, for which they will be placed on a waiting list for when tickets become available. The franchise will make a limited number of tickets available for game day sales prior to when they will take the ice for the 2017-2018 NHL season.  

Team owner, Bill Foley said, “Today, we are proud to announce that season tickets for the 2017 season are sold out. This is a truly historic event for the Las Vegas community, the NHL and all of our fans. I would like to thank everyone who has supported and continues to support our efforts to make the Las Vegas NHL franchise a success.”

 

The new franchise began their season ticket drive in February 2015 with an initial goal of 10,000 season ticket deposits. The franchise said that more than 5,000 were sold within the first two days and 9,000 within the first month of the ticket launch. 

Foley said, “We launched a season-ticket drive to demonstrate the long-term viability of an NHL franchise in Las Vegas and were able to surpass our initial goal within months.”

 

The new club will play the newly built, 17,500 seat, T-Mobile Arena, located just off the famed Las Vegas Strip when the puck drops next fall. Foley hopes to announce the nickname, which will include Knights, logo and color scheme of the team in mid-October, coinciding with the start of the 2106-2017 NHL season.

Merchandise like hats and T-shirts, are expected to go on sale right around the launch of the team name and logo, while jerseys will probably become available in December. 

The NHL awarded Las Vegas with the 31^st franchise on June 22^nd. The league last expanded 16 years ago, prior to the 2000-2001 season, when the Columbus Blue Jackets and Minnesota Wild entered the NHL. 

The NHL breaks the ice, becoming the first of the four major North American sports leagues to have a franchise in “Sin City.”
