Nashville Predators Resign Filip Forsberg to Six Year Deal

The Nashville Predators announced on Monday that they have resigned Filip Forsberg to a six year, 36 million-dollar contract on Monday.

The 22-year-old Forsberg, who led the Predators in goals and points over the last two seasons could have become a restricted free agent on Friday, July 1^st had he and Nashville not agreed on a deal. 

Predators’ general manger, David Poile said, “Filip is among the most skilled, dynamic talents we have ever had in the organization and is an integral part of our success for the next six years and beyond. We have already seen his creativity, hockey sense and puck skills, he has yet to reached the peak of his abilities. We have full confidence that he will blossom into one of the top players in the world.”

 

This past season he finished in a four way tie for 10^th place with 33 goals on the season. In 20 Stanley Cup Playoff games, Forsberg has scored 10 goals, helping the Predators reach the postseason in each of the last two seasons. 

Last season he put up a goal and two assists as he helped Nashville defeat the Anaheim Ducks in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs, before taking the eventual Western Conference Champions, the San Jose Sharks to seven games in the second round. 

Poile added, “This is just another example of our ownership group’s commitment to the franchise, our fans and the entire community to build a team that can reach our ultimate goal of winning the Stanley Cup.”  

The Washington Capitals first round pick, number 11 overall in the 2012 National Hockey League Entry Draft, was acquired by the Predators in exchange for Martin Erat and Michael Latta on April 3, 2013. He has scored 133 goals in 182 games, all with the Predators. 

The 59 goals that he has scored since the start of the 2014-2015 season, ties him with Nikita Kucherov of the Tampa Bay Lightning for 14^th place in the NHL over that time period.
