NHL Preseason Schedule Announced for 2016-2017 Season




The National Hockey League announced the preseason schedule for the 2016-2017 season, with two new arenas, two college campuses as well as a few neutral site games. 

The Edmonton Oilers will open the new Rogers Place, on September 26, the second day of the preseason schedule, with a split squad matchup with the Calgary Flames.

The new venue will also see the Anaheim Ducks, October 4, Winnipeg Jets, October 6 and Vancouver Canuks on October 8 in exhibition action before the Oilers open the regular season against the Flames on October 12.    

Even though Las Vegas will not take the ice until the 2017-2018 NHL season, their new T-Mobile Arena will host the Los Angeles Kings in two preseason matchups. On October 7, the Kings will hit the Las Vegas Strip to take on the Dallas Stars, and then on the following night, will see the Colorado Avalanche in Sin City.

The Kraft Hockeyville game for the 2016-2017 NHL Preseason, was awarded to the city of Lumby, British Columbia for Canada’s matchup and Marquette, Michigan in the United States. 

The Oilers will battle the Kings at the Kal Tire Place in Vernon, British Columbia on October 2, at 9:00 PM eastern time, while the Buffalo Sabres will take on the Carolina Hurricanes at Lakeville Arena in Marquette on October 4, at 7:00 PM eastern time.      

On September 26, the Minnesota Wild and the Sabres will play the first of the two NHL games on college campuses, as they take the ice at Pegula Ice Arena in State College, Pennsylvania. On October 8, the New Jersey Devils and the Florida Panthers will head to the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York for the second. 

The other neutral site games include; the Ottawa Senators against the Toronto Maple Leafs at Scotiabank Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia on September 26.  The Philadelphia Flyers will host the Devils at the PPL Center, in Allentown, Pennsylvania on September 28. 

On September 29, the Sabres and the Maple Leafs will head to the Meridian Centre in St. Catherines, Ontario. The New York Islanders will host the Washington Capitals at Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, Connecticut on October 1. The next night the Stars and the Panthers will play at Budweiser Gardens in London, Ontario. 

Centre Videotron in Quebec City, Quebec while coming up short in being awarded an NHL expansion franchise, will get to see the Boston Bruins and Montreal Canadiens faceoff on October 4. The Senators and Maple Leafs will also drop the puck at the SaskTel Centre in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on October 4 as well. 

The Capitals and the St. Louis Blues will do battle at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Missouri on October 5. The same night, the Sabres and the Hurricanes will head to the Essar Centre in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. 

On October 7, the Detroit Red Wings and Maple Leafs will head to Hamilton, Ontario and the FirstOntario Centre for a little preseason action. A full list of the preseason schedule can be found at https://www.nhl.com/schedule/2016-09-25/ET
