Arbitration Avoided: Detroit Signs Petr Mrazek Nashville Inks Calle Jarnkrok and Ottawa Signs Mike Hoffman

The Detroit Red Wings and Petr Mrazek avoided arbitration on Wednesday as they reached an agreement on a two-year deal. 

The 24-year-old netminder was scheduled have a team elected hearing on Wednesday in Toronto.

This past season he led Red Wings goalies in games played (54), wins (27), goals against average (2.33), save percentage (.921) and shutouts (4). 

In four seasons in the “Motor City,” Mrazek has put up a 46-30-8 record with a 2.29 goals against average and a .920 save percentage with nine shutouts in 94 games. Through 10 Stanley Cup Playoff games, he has a 4-6 record, with a 1.88 GAA and .931 save percentage. He also has three shutouts in the postseason.

The Nashville Predators also avoided arbitration with Calle Jarnkrok as the two sides agreed on a six year, 12-million-dollar deal. 

Jarnkrok, 24, was scheduled to have his arbitration hearing on August 4^th, in Toronto. This past season he set career highs in the NHL, with 16 goals and 14 assists in 81 games. Four of his tallies were game winners for the Predators. 

In three seasons in the “Music City,” he has lit the lamp 25 times, while picking up the helpers on 32 others, in 167 NHL games. He has added three assists through 20 Stanley Cup Playoff games. 

Nashville also signed unrestricted free agent, Matt Carle to a one year, 700,000-dollar deal on Wednesday. The team also recently avoid arbitration with defenseman, Petter Granberg, when he signed his two-year, two-way deal. 

The Ottawa Senators also were able to avoid arbitration with Mike Hoffman on Wednesday, as they agreed on a four year, 20.75 million-dollar contract. Hoffman was scheduled to have his case heard on August 4^th. 

This past season, Hoffman put up career highs with 29 goals and 59 points in the Canadian capital. Nine of his goals and 13 assists were on the power play. Three of Hoffman’s goals were game winners for the Senators. 

On the Senator’s Twitter page, Hoffman said, “The Sens are a team I wanted to play for and I am excited to work with [coach] Guy Boucher again. I love the city and the fans.”    

    

Hoffman played for Boucher, from 2007 to 2009, during his days with the Drummondville Voltigeurs of the Quebec Major Junior League.  

In each of the past two seasons, Hoffman led the Senators in goals. In 186 NHL games, he has scored 59 goals and 54 assists. He has been able to add one goal and two assists in six Stanley Cup Playoff games. 

Senators general manager, Pierre Dorion said, “Mike Hoffman is a huge piece of our team moving forward. To get a long-term contract done makes both sides happy.”

Following the 2014-2015 season, an arbitrator awarded Hoffman a one year, two million-dollar contract.
