The Edmonton Oilers signed Milan Lucic to a seven-year deal
worth 42 million-dollars on Friday.
Lucic, 28, scored 20 goals and 35 assists with the Los Angeles
Kings in 81 games this past season. The signing reunites Lucic with his general
manager from the Boston Bruins, Peter Chiarelli. Lucic was the top line, power
forward with the Bruins during their Stanley Cup Championship run in 2011.
Lucic said, “Being
with Peter in Boston, what he was able to do with us there, adding the right
pieces at the time and my loyalty towards him made the ultimate decision and I am
just excited to get going and see what we can do to moving forward.”
He also added that the idea of playing with Connor McDavid
and the other young forwards was enticing as well.
Lucic said, “I think
the Oilers have been missing a little bit of the attitude and a little bit of
swagger over the last few years, and that is something that I bring to a team
as well. I am excited for another fresh start as well.”
The Kings acquired Lucic in June of 2015, in the deal that
sent goaltender, Martin Jones, defenseman Colin Miller and their first round
pick from the 2105 draft to Boston.
