The Florida Panthers continued their busy offseason as they
have given a five-year extension to forward Reilly Smith.
General manager, Tom Rowe said, “Reilly was a key player for our team last season. He was a valuable
contributor to our offense and special teams and is an important part of our
talented group of forwards.”
The 25-year-old Smith scored 25 goals and 25 assists, in 82
games for the Panthers during the 2015-2016 season. The 25 goals were a career
high for Smith, as he was ranked tied third on the team. He was one of two
Panthers players to appear in every game for the Cats during the season.
While appearing in all six playoff games against the New
York Islanders in the opening round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, he led the
Panthers in scoring, with four goals and four assists. He also established a
franchise record with three consecutive multi-point playoff games.
The six foot five, 185-pound native of Toronto, Ontario has
appeared in 285 National Hockey League games for the Panthers, Boston Bruins and
Dallas Stars. He has scored 61 goals and 89 assists over the course of his career,
while adding eight goals and five assists in 18 career postseason games.
The Stars selected Smith in the third round, 69th
overall of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
